Technical resources

Useful inputs for a safer, better-defined spraying project.

A productive first discussion needs process evidence and current safety information. Use this page to assemble the technical brief and reach authoritative UK guidance relevant to controlled spraying environments.

Project brief

Information that improves the first technical response.

Provide representative part drawings, weights, photos and a video of the current process. Include material technical and safety data, finish requirements, production rate, shift pattern, variants, available space and services.

State known quality problems, material use, rework and operator concerns. This gives the application team a credible basis for the next step.

  • Part and product variant matrix
  • Material TDS and SDS
  • Target cycle and production pattern
  • Site layout, services and interfaces

Authoritative guidance

UK HSE sources for dutyholders and project teams.

The Health and Safety Executive publishes guidance on local exhaust ventilation, spray booths, coating powders, isocyanates and explosive atmospheres. The applicable duties depend on the actual substances and work activity.

These external resources do not replace competent project-specific assessment.

  • HSE: Local exhaust ventilation (LEV)
  • HSE: Isocyanate paint spraying and spray rooms
  • HSE: Reducing risks from coating powders
  • HSE: ATEX equipment and explosive atmospheres

Acceptance

Agree what success looks like before build.

Define the parts, material, environmental conditions and inspection methods used for acceptance. A finish description such as ‘good quality’ is not enough by itself.

Measurable criteria can include coverage zones, film thickness, bead dimensions, visual defect limits, cycle time, changeover sequence, alarm tests and documentation delivery.

  • Representative production samples
  • Documented inspection method
  • Factory and site acceptance tests
  • Open-item and change-control process
